Aalto University is a community of bold thinkers where science and art meet technology and business. We are committed to identifying and solving grand societal challenges and building an innovative future. Aalto University has six schools with 11 000 students and 400 professors. Our campuses are located in Espoo and Helsinki, Finland.

‘Climate change and scarcity of natural resources are such complex challenges that no one can solve them alone. We want to cooperate with companies and the rest of society to increase understanding of the solutions that are needed to build a sustainable future. CLC’s activities support this goal very well,’ says President of Aalto University Ilkka Niemelä.

The university’s goal is to build a sustainable society driven by innovation and entrepreneurship. For example, climate change, material efficiency and the circular economy are being studied in a multidisciplinary manner by several research groups at Aalto University. In practice, Aalto’s CLC membership would be visible as, for example, cooperation between research groups and the CLC corporate network. Examples of projects related to the theme at Aalto include the Smart Energy Transition research project, Impact Iglu’s Greenhouse entrepreneurship programme, and the EU’s Climate-KIC initiative.

Aalto Sustainability Hub was founded last autumn to bring scientists from different fields together and to promote the inclusion of sustainable development in teaching, entrepreneurship, campus development and other Aalto University activities.
