Zero Emissions Day On September 21

Everyday choices made by ordinary people hold the key to our efforts to reduce emissions and find more sustainable solutions. Zero Emissions Day has been designed to give the world a break from fossil fuels and to raise awareness about the harm caused by carbon emissions. The goal is to engage people towards more climate-friendly choices in their personal life. Zero Emissions Day was launched in Nova Scotia, Canada in 2008. CLC began organising the event in Finland in 2017.

This year, we aim to increase the coverage of Zero Emissions Day and this is why we are looking for strong partners to join us.

In 2020, the CLC members can take part in celebrating the Zero Emissions Day in multiple ways:

  1. Cooperate with schools and the Children and Youth Foundation
  2. Share examples and experiences on climate-friendly HR policy
  3. Campaigns and challenges to your own stakeholders

Cooperate with schools and the Children and Youth Foundation

Together with the Climate Leadership Coalition, the Children and Youth Foundation www.nuori.fi is planning how the schools in Finland are celebrating the day this autumn, and in the coming years. We would like to invite you to join us in organizing this National Day with us!

The Children and Youth Foundation aims to fasten the ecological reconstruction of our society through education. For Zero Emissions Day, we will gather easy-to-use content and methods for the schools, so that it is easy for them to participate anywhere in Finland. As a part of this, well known young Finnish climate activists will visit upper comprehensive schools to inspire pupils by telling their own life story. All this is possible to tailor by the wishes of your company.

We hope that companies that are keen on boosting the ecological reconstruction, will take part in celebrating the Zero Emissions Day at schools.

Share examples and experiences on climate-friendly HR policy

Several CLC member organizations emphasize the climate perspective in their staff travel instructions, company car policies and other guidelines. We are now compiling examples of the climate-friendly HR policies in place in your organizations. Tips and best practices from the CLC member organizations will be shared on the Zero Emissions Day. We also challenge other companies to implement climate-friendly policies and practices in their own organizations.

Short (approx. 5-10 lines long) descriptions of climate-friendly HR policy in Finnish and / or English can be sent by June 18 to Sari Siitonen by email: sari@clonet.fi

Campaigns for your own stakeholders

Just like in previous years (2018 and 2019), you can implement your own campaigns, challenges and competitions for your own stakeholders such as customers and employees.

We are compiling a summary of the campaigns, which will be published on the CLC website and also communicated via other channels.

Short (approx. 5-10 lines long) descriptions in Finnish and / or English of the Zero Emission Day campaigns can be sent by June 18 to Sari Siitonen by email: sari@clonet.fi

We will send out more information about the plans for Zero Emissions Day and the organizations that have already registered during May and June. In August, we will continue communication only for the registered organizations.

Please register your organization’s participation by sending e-mail to the Coordinator of the Zero Emissions Day, Sari Siitonen: sari@clonet.fi.

The day is a good opportunity for each of us to think what we can do to reduce harmful carbon emissions. Climate Leadership Coalition invites all organisations to celebrate Zero Emissions Day and organise campaigns for their staff, customers and other stakeholders.

In addition, we will collaborate with schools, cities and sports organisations.

In 2020, Zero Emissions Day will be on Monday. Activities include our fall meeting as well as campaigns organized by our member organisations.
