The Climate Leadership Coalition (CLC), which develops business-driven solutions to address climate change, has accepted Sweco Finland, an architecture and engineering consultancy company, as a new organisational member. Sweco’s membership supersedes the membership of Gaia Consulting, which was acquired by Sweco in 2021. The total number of CLC’s organizational members is 89.
“Sweco is Europe’s leading architecture and engineering consultancy. Hydrogen projects, wood construction as well as weighing up alternatives from a sustainability perspective are daily tasks for our experts. The circular economy, which is vital for sustainable economic growth and emission reductions, is Sweco’s international umbrella theme this year. We are therefore looking forward to the theme group work on this highly current topic,” says Markku Varis, Business Area President, Sweco Finland.
The number of CLC personal members has risen to 55 as CLC has accepted Ash Pachauri, Co-founder of the POP (Protect Our Planet) Movement, as a personal member. The POP Movement is a global initiative designed to create awareness of climate change among young people.
“I am deeply honoured to join as a personal and Advisory Board member of CLC. I am of the strong conviction that it will take urgent, collective action to address the pressing issue of climate change in the small, and rapidly closing, window of opportunity that we have. The POP Movement is deeply committed to attaining this goal, which CLC profoundly exemplifies through its activities, memberships, and leadership. I believe together we will go far,” says Ash Pachauri.
“We warmly welcome the new members to CLC’s network. Our growing membership base and network of partners enhance CLC’s potential to support Finnish, Nordic and EU decision-makers in their work to mitigate climate change and implement the European Green Deal. We are looking forward to working together in climate change mitigation with these highly respected professionals,” says Karl-Henrik Sundström, Chair of the Board, CLC.
“I welcome warmly both new members to CLC. In addition to our climate work in Europe, CLC is interested in developing collaboration with other countries. With Ash Pachauri’s membership, we can develop collaboration within India as well as with many other countries where the POP Movement is already active,” says Jouni Keronen, CEO, CLC. Jouni Keronen will retire on April 1, 2022, and will assume the position of Co-chair of CLC’s Advisory Board focusing on developing CLC’s cooperation projects in the United States, India and China.
CLC is a non-profit association and Europe’s largest climate-business network. CLC’s members employ 530,000 people globally and CLC’s corporate members represent about 70% of the market cap of OMX Nasdaq Helsinki. CLC’s members believe that transitioning society towards a sustainable economy and consumption habits is not only possible but also economically viable.
