Climate Leadership Coalition (CLC), which develops business-driven solutions to climate change, welcomes Marcus Wallenberg as a personal member and as a member of CLC’s Advisory Board.

Marcus Wallenberg is a Swedish banker and industrialist, who serves as Chair of SEB, Saab, Patricia Industries and FAM. He is also Vice Chair of Investor AB and a member of the Board of AstraZeneca and the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation. Wallenberg has earlier been CEO of Investor and his earlier board assignments include Electrolux, LKAB and Temasek.

In addition to more than 80 organisational members, CLC has 40 personal members, most of whom are also members of CLC’s Advisory Board. The membership of Marcus Wallenberg further strengthens CLC’s position as the largest non-profit climate business network in Europe and expands CLC’s member base in the other Nordic countries. In December, CLC accepted its first Scandinavian organisational members, the Swedish home appliance manufacturer Electrolux and the Danish wind power company Vestas.

“Last year saw much good news regarding climate mitigation when the EU, China, Japan and many other countries announced their climate neutrality targets, and also the President-elect Joe Biden and his transition team are aiming for the US to achieve climate neutrality. However, the speed of change is still unfortunately too slow and we need to ramp up investments in clean solutions significantly. CLC has actively proposed solutions to increase the investments needed and I am very happy to join CLC’s Advisory Board and to support CLC in its mission,” says Marcus Wallenberg.

“Marcus Wallenberg’s membership is a milestone for CLC and a great recognition of the work our network has done over the past six years. Our growing membership base and network of partners enhance CLC’s potential to support Nordic and EU decision-makers in work to mitigate climate change and in planning and implementing the European Green Deal. The expansion of our membership in the other Nordic countries is an important step for CLC. We warmly welcome Marcus Wallenberg to CLC’s network,” say Karl-Henrik Sundström, Chair of CLC’s Board and Jyrki Katainen, Vice Chair of CLC’s Board.

“As the Chair of SEB, Marcus Wallenberg has supported CLC already in the past, for example being one of the first signatories of our Nordic Call for EU climate targets. It is an honour to welcome Marcus to the CLC Advisory Board. I am also delighted that most of our personal members were willing to join the Advisory Board,” says Henrik Ehrnrooth, Chair of CLC’s Advisory Board.

CLC is a non-profit association and its 81 members employ 500,000 people globally. CLC’s corporate members represent almost 70% of the market cap of OMX Nasdaq Helsinki. CLC’s members believe that a transition by society towards a sustainable economy and consumption habits is not only possible but also economically viable.
