The Board of the Climate Leadership Coalition (CLC) has appointed Henrik Ehrnrooth as the new Chair of the CLC Advisory Board as of 1 January 2021. Ehrnrooth, Chair of the Board of Directors of Otava and a Board member of AFRY, is a long-term Chair of the CLC Board and also a personal member of CLC.
The CLC Advisory Board supports the coalition in its areas of focus and in achieving its targets. The key area in 2019-2020 has been to develop and promote a more systematic, market-based solution for reducing emissions for the EU. The CLC described the solution in its position papers (1, 2) and presented, on several occasions, the proposal to the EU Commission and Parliament, including to Frans Timmermans, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission (3). The EU Commission’s 2030 Climate Target Plan Communication and the European Parliament’s guidelines contain a number of issues supported by the CLC.
The CLC Board has set out to develop a comprehensive land use and bioeconomy strategy in the EU as its most important new target for next year.
“Land-use and bioeconomy will have a major role in climate mitigation during this century delivering about one fifth of the total reduction of emissions today, and three quarters between 2050-2100. To enhance this outcome the Climate Leadership Coalition works for developing a synthesis for the land-use, bioeconomy and biodiversity to get best climate benefits from nature-based resources and bioeconomy products. We want to participate in the EU Green Deal development and in particular in the formation of the new legislation that is proposed for emission trading, effort sharing, land use, land use change and forestry (LULUCF) by the summer 2021”, says Henrik Ehrnrooth.
“I’d like to thank CLC’s Advisory Board and its Chair Pertti Korhonen for their excellent support, and, on behalf of CLC, I warmly welcome Henrik Ehrnrooth, who will support our activities in his new role,” says Jouni Keronen, CEO of Climate Leadership Coalition.
CLC is a non-profit association, and its 77 members employ 430,000 people globally. CLC’s corporate members represent almost 70% of the market cap of the OMX Nasdaq Helsinki stock exchange. CLC’s members believe that a transition by society toward sustainable economy and consumption habits is not only possible but also economically viable.
