The Climate Leadership Coalition (CLC), which develops business-driven solutions for climate change, is delighted to welcome two new members: Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke) and the University of Vaasa.
The two new members bring the number of CLC organizational members to 73. Luke and the University of Vaasa strengthen CLC’s position as Europe’s largest climate change business network.
“Luke has research-based, world-class expertise in processes affecting greenhouse gas balances and their management in both the forest and food sectors. The data we produce can help us move towards a low-carbon, sustainable and competitive society. We are part of a strong European research community. We also want to bring our expertise and networks to the CLC cooperation network so that we can find solutions for mitigating and adapting to climate change,” says Johanna Buchert, President and CEO, Luke.
“Research and teaching at the University of Vaasa both have a strong focus on sustainable development, corresponding energy solutions, and carbon neutrality. They are at the very core of our new strategy. The university also has an extensive campus project underway to build a carbon-neutral campus using the latest solutions, as well as linking research in the field to support future campus solutions,” says Jari Kuusisto, Rector, the University of Vaasa .
CLC has also accepted Karl-Henrik Sundström, former CEO of Stora Enso, and Simo Honkanen, former Senior Vice President of Sustainability, Public Affairs and Communications at Neste, as personal members. There are now 30 CLC personal members.
“CLC has an important role in connecting private sector and policymakers in solution-oriented climate discussions. Different players and aligned actions are needed to resolve the climate challenge. CLC is a widely recognized actor in this field in Finland and abroad. I’m very pleased to be part of this process and expect bold new initiatives and constructive dialogue in helping to combat the climate issue,” says Simo Honkanen.
“On behalf of CLC, I warmly welcome new organizational and personal members to join us. It’s great that interest in our association continues to grow. Our growing membership and partner network offers CLC more opportunities to support policymakers in Finland in the fight against climate change, as well as the EU in planning and implementing the European Green Deal,” says Henrik Ehrnrooth, Chair of the Board, CLC.
CLC is a non-profit association, and its members employ 400,000 people globally. CLC’s corporate members represent almost 70% of the market cap of the OMX Nasdaq Helsinki stock exchange. The Coalition’s members believe that a transition by society toward sustainable economy and consumption habits is not only possible but also economically viable.
