The Climate Leadership Coalition (CLC) continues to expand its membership. The latest new members to join the organisation, whose purpose is to develop business-led solutions for climate change, are Finland’s largest media company Sanoma Corporation, world leading atmospheric scientist Professor Markku Kulmala and climate change policy consultant Louis Blumberg. The coalition currently comprises 52 organisational members. The CLC exists to engage businesses, and the wider society, in action to mitigate against climate change.

“Sanoma has a proud track record of working consistently to reduce our own operational carbon footprint and to promote broadcast and print coverage of climate change. We are pleased to have the opportunity to expand our expertise in this area through our CLC membership, and I believe that our media expertise will benefit the CLC network in turn,” Pekka Ala-Pietilä, Chairman at Sanoma, commented.

Also joining CLC are Academy Professor Markku Kulmala from the University of Helsinki and environmental consultant Louis Blumberg, who previously ran the California Climate Change programme. He is also the first North American to join CLC as a personal member.

“I just returned from a trip to Helsinki where I left very impressed with the comprehensive and innovative approach the Climate Leadership Coalition is promoting. The active participation by top leaders in business and government in the CLC uniquely positions it to drive creative and effective climate solutions in Finland and across Europe.  I am honored to be the first North American personal member in the CLC and I am eager to help CLC achieve its critically important agenda,” Louis Blumberg said.

“I have been following the CLC for some years now, and it is clear to me that the work they are doing offers excellent opportunities for effective international collaboration, including the further development of comprehensive observations. I’m pleased to make my scientific expertise and networks available for the CLC,” Kulmala commented.

CLC Chairman Henrik Ehrnrooth gave a warm welcome to the new members on behalf of the organisation:

“Sanoma’s decision to join CLC we will significantly enhance our media capabilities, while Professor Kulmala and Mr Blumberg will contribute a wealth of expertise on natural climate solutions. We are delighted to have them on board.”

This year, the CLC has focused on developing Nordic and international carbon neutrality projects across the forestry, agriculture, energy and transport sectors and run initatives to encourage consumers to adopt more climate-friendly decision-making. The organisation is also working on the development of more effective carbon pricing mechanisms.
