Stora Enso will be the 40th member of the Climate Leadership Coalition (CLC), an organisation that challenges companies and society to act on climate change. CLC views that profitable, sustainable business is the most efficient way to respond to global environmental challenges.

CLC develops and implements solutions for carbon footprint and handprint, built environment, transportation, energy, forestry, agriculture, circular economy, climate financing, risk management, carbon pricing and consumer cleantech. It is a rapidly growing network of leading Finnish and international companies and organizations working in close collaboration with cities and public sector. Its current 40 members represent around half of the market cap of the Helsinki stock exchange.

Stora Enso is a leading provider of renewable solutions in packaging, bio materials, wooden constructions and paper on global markets. Stora Enso is recognized by Carbon Disclosure Project A list and is a member of the Corporate Leaders Group.  Stora Enso has also joined the We Mean Business -coalition, and signed a pledge to combat global warming by committing to a science-based emission reduction target. This made Stora Enso the first company in Finland to make such a commitment.

–  Our ambition is to drive down fossil fuel use so that we get as close to zero as possible within the decade using technically and commercially feasible means, and we seek to substitute fossil based and other non-renewable materials with our renewable products. We look forward to continue working with CLC as was initiated in 2016 when CLC, We Mean Business and Stora Enso co-hosted the successful Accelerating Climate Action workshop, says CEO Karl-Henrik Sundström, who has also been elected to the CLC Board from January 2018.

–  Stora Enso will complement our association well. The role of forests and wood products are crucial in substituting fossil materials and energy as well as storing carbon. Now CLC has high quality competences in all main climate mitigation areas.  I wish Stora Enso warmly welcome, says Henrik Ehrnrooth, Chairman of the CLC board.
